We hope you are looking forward to your upcoming trip to Sunday River!
Please be sure to share this site with your guests and click here for house and area guides, menus, day trip ideas, floor plans, vendor list, etc. If you have any questions at all about the house or the area, please give us a call or drop us a note. We look forward to hosting your trip!
The Glen House is located at 42 Wilderness Drive, Newry Maine 04261. Navigate to The Glen House in Newry, Maine. Directions are also here. Our driveway is on the left-hand side of the cul-de-sac and cannot be seen from the road. There is a large stone pillar with Glen House written on it at the entrance to the driveway. If you can see the house from the road or you don’t see the giant double wrought iron entry doors, you are at the wrong house!
To arrange transportation for airport pickup/drop off, try Sunday River Stage Coach. The nearest airport is the Portland International Jetport (PWM) at 1.5 hrs away. Manchester (MHT) is 2.5 hrs and Boston's Logan International (BOS) is 3 hrs door to door. For anyone with a private plane, the Bethel airport's runway is large enough for small jets and a rental company can meet you there with a car, or you can call the Sunday River Shuttle free of charge. The Sunday River Stagecoach Shuttle picks up and drops off right at the front door! Call them (207-357-5783) to arrange for transportation between the house and anywhere such as the bars, restaurants, or shopping. This is a paid service such as a taxi would be.
Check-in is 5 pm unless you have specifically made other arrangements with us ahead of time. The housekeepers are not permitted to allow you into the house (including the kitchen and bathrooms) prior to that time so that they may effectively get the house perfected for your stay. If you arrive early, you may want to consider stopping at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center where you can get additional area info, the Maine Mineral Museum or grab a bite to eat at the bowling alley. You will find the house unlocked on your arrival. Keys are in the center island in the kitchen, in the right-hand drawer. Please leave them there when you depart.
Check-out is 10 am unless you have specifically made other arrangements with us ahead of time. To enable us to get the house fully cleaned and turned over in time for the next check-in, please run the loaded dishwasher and wash/dry your towels prior to departure. You may find it helpful to wash towels the night before. Please leave the house unlocked and trash/recyclables in the garage
We have wifi internet throughout the house (no password). There is also a printer and computer in the office area. The theater is set up for presentations. We have 340 DVDs in the theater with new releases added as they become available. In addition, we also have almost every DirecTv channel (including premiums), sports pack, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and on-demand so you will certainly have plenty of viewing material!
For grocery shopping, there is a BJs and Sam’s Club in Portland. On your way here on Rt. 26 in South Paris there is a Hannaford grocery store. Then in town Bethel, there is a small, but decent grocery store on Main Street. There is also a small market near the house, The Barking Dawg, that will deliver grocery items, beer/liquor, or prepared food right to the house! It’s a great idea for your arrival day, with your first night’s dinner ready and waiting for you to enjoy when you arrive. You may also want to make a stop at the tax-free NH Liquor & Wine Outlet in Portsmouth on your way up. For food, we usually stock up in bulk by placing an online order for curbside delivery at Sam’s Club in Portland. You will most likely drive right past it on your way up. Our shopper can also pick it up for you and stock the pantry prior to your arrival. She charges $225 for this service. If you do not have a Sam’s Club account and would like to use mine to place your online order, reach out. You can also place an online order for curbside delivery at Walmart in Oxford (which you will drive by) or Gorham NH (if you’d like us to pick it up), or at Hannaford in Norway (you will drive by or we can pick it up). Our shopper charges $140 for delivery service from either of these locations. If we are doing the delivery/stocking service for you, please schedule it for a 1 pm pickup time with Michele Cox as the pickup person and give us a week’s notice. After you place the order, email me the confirmation. Toilet paper, soap, one roll of paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, tea, and one morning’s worth of coffee is provided. Flour, sugar, spices, and lots of other supplies are usually at the house for your use as well. However, these other supplies, which also include condiments, napkins, foil, oil, etc. vary as I do not regularly inventory them and can’t guarantee specifically what will be there. If there is something specific that you must have, I’d recommend you bring it. Please ask if you have questions about supplies.
Lobster - This is a question we get frequently - where to buy lobster. In Maine, you can get fresh live lobster at any grocery store, some pizza shops, and even sometimes McDonald’s (cooked lobster rolls). The house is fully equipped with lobster pots, butter cups, shell crackers, and specialty lobster plates that explain how to eat them. Lobsters must be live when you cook them, so plan accordingly. The Bethel Hannaford sells them, but for larger orders, call ahead 207-824-2121. Or have the Good Food Store cook them for you, which is recommended if you’ve never cooked lobster before (it can be messy and smells up the house, so is best done outside) 207-824-3754. Current prices fluctuate widely from $8/lb to $35/lb for lobster depending on current catches on the docks, weather, and season.
Personal Concierge - Our caretaker, Tracy Rainey, is available to run any errands you may need during your stay. Anything from picking up tickets to delivering takeout food orders. She charges $45/hr. for her time. Call her directly at 207-357-1113. You may also of course call her or us with any issues that arise with the house during your stay.

The nearest hospital is St. Stephens Memorial in Norway. There is the Bethel Family Health Center in town.
There is a guidebook at the house with lots more area information including amusement parks, swimming holes, restaurant menus, hiking trails, massage services, etc. You may also want to check out the local events calendar for shows you may need to purchase tickets for in advance, or other happenings.
The telephone number for the house is 207-824-0390. We have unlimited domestic and Canadian long-distance. Cell phone reception at the house is average for most cell phone companies.
We have 3 personal chefs we use at the house. Their menus are included here. Chef Sadie can be reached at 207- 689- 4071 or email@example.com. For groups of 20+, Dave or Heather can be reached at 207-824-3754 or firstname.lastname@example.org or The Good Food Store. I also recommend pre-ordering one of their Heat and Eat homemade meals and picking them up as you drive by. Gourmet in a Pinch is another great option. They are great for takeout on your arrival day as well. Contact them for more information Gourmet in a Pinch , 207-824-6000, email@example.com. They are complete caterers who rent party supplies for larger events at the house (i.e. tables, chairs, etc.) and can help with planning. All 3 are excellent and you really can't go wrong with any of them. They are also generally no more expensive than eating out, allowing you to enjoy all the comforts at the house. In all cases, they can do anything from delivered bagged lunches to fully hosted dinners cooked at the house. All have lots of experience cooking for us and we’ve never received anything other than positive reviews.
Mid-week or daily cleaning is available. The housekeepers charge $40/hr. with a 3-hour minimum. They are very efficient. Plan on 3 hrs. of labor for a typical mid-week cleaning. You can give them a cap on the amount of time or let them know what you want done. Please give me at least two weeks’ notice to schedule them. You will pay them directly.
For massage services right at the house, I recommend Rebecca Fraser at Mountain View Massage 207-370-8580. Another great option for in-house pampering is Skin Cayer They will come to the house for pedicures (with their portable foot bath), manicures, and facials. To travel to a wonderful nearby spa, I'd recommend the Grand Jordan spa (hot stone massage, detoxification treatments) or Higher Ground Healing Arts right in the Village. The Bethel Inn has full spa services right at the Club as well. For in-house makeup and hair styling, contact Frieda Charron at firstname.lastname@example.org or Hair by Frieda or 757-870-4020.
For in-house yoga instruction, set up a class with Malinda (email@example.com 207-200-3815, website). She customizes the class to your needs with modifications and techniques to be able to include all ages and styles. She will bring all the mats, music, and oils. $125/private group class. Another in-house option is Open Sky Yoga at 207-381-3296 firstname.lastname@example.org .
Photography - For great family portraits or to just capture some fun family memories, you may want to call one of the area's great photographers. A fantastic option is Andree Kehn (see her blog for contact info and pictures of other weddings she has shot at the house Andree Kehn. She has won numerous wedding photographer awards, and she has taken wonderful photos for our family as well. Carol Savage, Carol Savage Photography is also excellent. Yeah Bud Photography is another good, local option, and recent guests have also recommended Two Adventurous Souls and

You will find 3 VIP front-row parking passes to use for front-row parking at the South Ridge and Barker base lodges on the inside of the pantry door. You will find these extremely useful during busy times, but be sure to be parked by 10 am. The Sunday River Stagecoach Shuttle picks up and drops off at the front door of the Glen house. The shuttle has capacity for 15 passengers at a time. You can also arrange for shuttle service between the house and restaurants, shopping, or anyplace else you'd like to go at any time by calling the Sunday River Stage Coach at 207-357-5783. This is a paid service such as a taxi would be. Uber and Lyft are also now available in the area, as is Uber Eats for food delivery.
Overnight and day slopeside ski storage is available at South Ridge at a special discounted Glen House rate! This is a fantastically convenient service that we use for our own family for the season. Day storage is unlimited use, so you just hand your skis over every time you go in to lunch or a warm up break, and when you come back out they give your skis/snowboard back to you. No worries or searching. Overnight storage is just that. They lock them up for the night and hand them back when you are ready in the morning. No lugging your skis back to the car (even if your car is in the front row thanks to our VIP parking passes!). The discounted rate for overnight storage is $4 pp, and day storage is $2 pp. However, if you store your skis for multiple nights, the day storage is free. Just tell them you are Glen House guests to get the discounted prices. They are located in the gray building with a white roof, next to the children’s ski school. If you need to rent winter clothing or gear, check out this new rental service.
The Glen House participates in the lift ticket group discount program with Sunday River. The person to contact for group sales for lift tickets is Laura at 207-824-5035 or email@example.com. The river releases are on Sundays, so you may want to reserve your time before arrival. Here is the link to the website Be Outside or ELC Outdoors. Errol is about 35 minutes away along a National Scenic Byway (Rt 26). It is an easy Class II family-oriented trip. For more challenging class IV rapids, look for Rapid River release dates or a further away trip on the Kennebec River on Wednesdays. ELC provides transportation, meals, etc., but it is about a 3 hr. trip each way. This is the most challenging rafting around but we do it every year. For other outdoor recreation ideas, be sure to check out Bethel's Website Be for more ideas and information. as well as Sunday River's Activity Guide. There are so very many other outdoor activity options as well such as zip line tours through the mountains (definitely check that out), bird hunting, clay shooting, mountain biking, horseback riding, gem mining, golf, swimming holes, waterfalls, scenic drives, hikes, lighthouse tours, whale watching. A new state-of-the-art Brunswick bowling alley is now open in Bethel! Ten-pin bowling, restaurant with pub food, sports bar, darts, arcade, billiards, cornhole toss, and music. Another resource to learn about local events (and there are many) is the Chamber of Commerce. If you have a chance to visit the Deertrees Theater, I recommend it. I am particularly fond of the children’s shows. It is a great old barn theater in the woods. Very quaint with wonderful talent. The new Oxford Casino is about 50 minutes away on Rt 26. The Stagecoach Shuttle provides private transportation there. I provide you with hiking trail info, but here is a video with more info. You also share our membership privileges at the Bethel Inn Resort, giving you access to the members-only Songo Pond Lake House, BBQ, kayaks, canoes, dock, etc. Another great way to spend a day is renting a pontoon boat or ski boat on Long Lake in Harrison. There are some very good golf courses in the area. The Glen House is located on the Sunday River Golf Club. It's a fantastic golf course.
